|Name of teaching resource
ACMI- Storyboard Generator from the Australian Centre for the Moving Image
|Who should this digital teaching resource be used with? (ie year/grade)
Upper primary and middle school years. (Year 6-10).
The storyboard generator is a great way for kids (and older people!) to use their creative writing and generating skills. Probably aimed more at the older primary onwards students, it uses a variety of mediums to build upon, including, video, sound, cartoon, fiction, non-fiction, writing and scripting.
You are able to choose a script and create a storyboard. You can try building your own storyboard by using background location photographs and once finished and completed you can save it and share the video with friends and teachers.
There are also applications for teacher and educators to use it as well. It is a way for teachers and educators to collaborate with peers and explore the practice and methods of teaching digital technologies.
|How should it be used? (e.g. individual, whole class)
You could use this form of digital resource either individually or as a whole class. The ACMI site allows you to create a profile and have access to upload your own videos which can then be shared via the website with others or even published via ACMI’s You Tube page. The education is based around how to build meaningful clips. You can also find and download copyright-free video, images and sounds. Share your images, video footage and sound files with the Generator community by adding your own to the library.
|Which subject or learning area would it be most appropriate to use in?
You could literally use this tool for almost any subject or topic area within the classroom. It is a media tool designed to help teachers and students be creative using technology. Some applications could include, media studies, English, social studies, IT etc.
|Identify the strengths of this teaching resource
Its flexibility and range of media it incorporates.
|Identify any weaknesses of this teaching resource
You need to have the latest Adobe flash player plug-ins and a fairly fast internet connection.
|Explain any ideas you may have for further use of this teaching resource
The free media library presents many opportunities for students to create their own media projects from selected and approved material. The Storyboard Generator is perfect for students who hate pen and paper but more importantly it’s a different and more exciting way to present information.
I would use this platform for students to present projects and assignments in a more entertaining but just as valuable way.
